The woman on the leftmost side is Alice M. Curtis. She was a renowned photographer based in Massachusetts and took over 4,000 photographs during her career that featured daily life in Gloucester. Her famous subjects were the ordinary activities of the people at the time, documenting their days so people in the future could appreciate how they lived in their era. Alice died in 1961 at the age of 90.
From the collection of Fred Bodin of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Fred was a long-time resident and well-known photographer of Gloucester and had one of the best private collections of New England nautical photographs. Fred was a photojournalist who graduated from Syracuse University and worked for Yankee Magazine. Mr. Bodin passed away in 2016, and HIP purchased his collection from his estate.
