Sometimes a little bit of blur is exactly what a photograph needs. I love this shot because none of the subjects are exactly in focus, and the child in the center of the frame is the least legible. Perhaps she was too young to sit still and wait for the camera's exposure time. The loss of that child's face gives this snapshot an especially creepy mood, and it definitely feels as though all of the subjects have an ethereal quality, as if they are, one by one, disappearing from this shot. This creepy gem comes to us from the collection of Fred Bodin, an avid collector and photographer who was active in New England until his death in 2016.
