This 5x7" glass negative contains fifteen snapshots of Black children and adolescents. Judging by the hats, we think these photographs date back to sometime between 1900 and 1920. Clarence Trefry was taking photographs around Portsmouth, New Hampshire, a community known for its vibrant Black history. We definitely have more to say about the fascinating history around this particular community, so keep your eyes peeled for new blog posts. For now, we hope you enjoy these snapshots.
