This photograph shares many similarities to its sister image. A woman stands amidst unkempt grass on the edge of the forest holding a small bouquet of leaves and wildflowers. However, I like the fact that this image also has many differences. While the other subject has a less readable facial expression (surprise? indifference? anxiety?), this woman has a certain sternness to her gaze, as if she resents the camera's intrusion on her nature walk. I love that these two photographs can have so much in common and still look so very different. This portrait pairing comes to us from Clarence Trefry, a photographer who was active in the communities around Rye, New Hampshire for decades.
