A man stands at the helm of his vessel sporting a kerchief, suspenders and healthy-sized mustache. We're not sure exactly who this captain is or where this photograph was taken. However, the image comes from the collection of Fred Bodin, who collected the work of many photographers who were active along the New England coast throughout the 20th century. Bodin also owned thousands of negatives that were taken by his grandmother, Alice Curtis, who was a lifelong resident of the fishing village of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Given her hometown's activing fishing culture, it's possible that this image was snapped by Ms. Curtis.
