A large black bear over six feet tall stands upright on a wooden bench as it curiously enjoys an afternoon snack. The bear is chained to a nearby tree both as a safety precaution, and also to ensure that the bear doesn't go wandering off. He faces the right and, fortunately, is not disturbed by the photographer taking his picture. The photograph was taken in a woodland environment, and to the left of the bear, a quaint, single-story house peeks out from behind the trees. This is likely the home of the bear's family, who can safely watch their furry friend from a window's distance.

From the collection of Fred Bodin of Gloucester MA. Fred was a long time resident and well-known photographer of Gloucester and had one of the best private collections of New England nautical photographs in private hands. Fred was a photojournalist having graduated with this degree from Syracuse University and worked for Yankee Magazine. Fred passed away in 2016 and HIP purchased his collection from his estate.
