Two Little Girls

Fred Bodin

$24.99

Two little girls gaze back at the camera. One of them sits in a small rocking chair, which sits atop a rug that someone has placed on the grass. This photograph picques my interest for a few reasons. First, I'm curious about this rug. Who places a rug on the grass? Was that a normal thing at some point? Secondly, I'm interested in how this image is framed. I like that this photographer chose to get so close to these girls and that all we can see of the world around them is the gigantic shrub. It gives this otherwise common subject matter a disorienting, eerie mood (which is only enhanced by the slightly blurry faces). This snapshot comes to us from the Fred Bodin collection. Fred was an avid collector and a professional photographer himself. He worked for "Yankee Magazine," a prominent New England publication. Over the course of his life, Fred collected photographic prints and negatives from various photographers around New England, and after his death in 2016, HIP purchased the bulk of Mr. Bodin's collection. We're excited to share the best of it with you.
