Several large, pieces of a ships hull are violently washed towards the shore along an unidentified coast in New England. The jagged, prominent ends of the remains and their dark color strongly contrasts against the dull color of the sky and ocean waves. The bleak, clouded sky along with the powerful nature of the waves strongly suggests that a strong storm is about to reach the area. Lying underneath the hull is sleek sand that has been washed over by the tide and is covered in a light layer of sea foam. Its smooth surface heavily stands out against the rough appearance of the waves and the wooden remnants of the shipwreck, giving the photograph a somewhat peaceful feeling. Yet the ominous appearance of the broken ship's ribs and the ocean waves create a dramatic aura that's difficult to overpower.
The location of New England is known for its breathtaking beaches, whose rocks have been artistically sculpted by the harsh waves throughout the years. In addition to its beauty, many people have also admired the New England waters for its resources and value in the seafaring industries. However, the New England coast is also known for numerous shipwrecks that have occurred throughout the region's history.
From the collection of Fred Bodin of Gloucester MA.
