Surrounded by beautiful flowers and gorgeously maintained plants, this bronze statue of George Washington, the esteemed first president of the United States, is proudly on display in the middle of Arlington Street in Boston Public Garden. Mr. Washington sits proudly atop a majestic horse with perfect posture as he focuses straight ahead with firm, piercing eyes. The statue is mounted atop a sculpted granite pedestal that heightens the power and adoration of the elegant statue. Surrounding the monument is a variety of trees and plants that have all been kept under the utmost care and add an atmosphere of stillness and allurement to the solemn park.

This statue of George Washington was sculpted by the American artist Thomas Ball in 1864 and erected in Boston Public Garden five years later. Established in 1837, the Boston Public Garden is the nation's first botanical garden and features several acres of decorative plants and trees, providing visitors with the perfect opportunity to admire some lovely scenery amidst a relaxing stroll. Together with the adjacent Boston Common Parks, it forms the northern part of the Emerald Necklace, a series of nine parks in Boston that were designed by Frederick Law Olmstead that spans 1,100 acres.

From the collection of Fred Bodin of Gloucester, MA. Fred was a long time resident and well-known photographer of Gloucester and had one of the best private collections of New England nautical photographs in private hands. Fred was a photojournalist having graduated with this degree from Syracuse University and worked for Yankee Magazine. Fred passed away in 2016 and HIP purchased his collection from his estate.
