A German battleship travels full steam ahead towards its destination. Its metal framework appears incredibly strong and durable, and the bow of the ship sharply arches inward, giving the ship an intimidating appearance. Lines fastened to the bowsprit reach towards a three-tiered mast that is placed along the front of the ship, and a thick trail of ash-grey smoke travels from a chimney that is positioned towards the middle. Through a thin layer of fog, one can make out the skyline of an unknown city in the background, adding to the powerful feelings of industrialization and modernization in this photograph.

From the collection of Fred Bodin of Gloucester, MA. Fred was a long time resident and well-known photographer of Gloucester and had one of the best private collections of New England nautical photographs in private hands. Fred was a photojournalist having graduated with this degree from Syracuse University and worked for Yankee Magazine. Fred passed away in 2016 and HIP purchased his collection from his estate.
