A photograph of a twisting desert tree. Since many of the photographs in this collection appear to have been taken in or near the Sonora Desert, we think this might be a mesquite tree, which are one of three trees that are native to the Sonoran Desert. The taproot of a mesquite tree can become up to 200 feet long, which makes this tree extremely hearty and allows it to thrive across the Southwestern United States, where rainfall is scarce. This particular beauty comes to us from the collection of Fred Bodin, a New England-based photographer and collector.
