I don't know what you're doing right now, but it's probably not as cool as this woman's shirt, so you should drop everything and buy a print. This woman might have a modest, downward gaze, but that's okay becuase this style can speak for itself. This particular portrait comes from the collection of Fred Bodin. Fred was a professional photographer, and he built a huge collection of photographs taken by artists in the New England region. Fred's collection also included the work of his grandmother, Alice Curtis, who was also an accomplished photographer. She took many portraits around her home in Gloucester, Massachusetts around the turn of the century, gravitating toward both studio and informal portraits of women, children, and families. For this reason, we think there's a good chance that Ms. Curtis took this particular photograph.
