$24.99

A Nisei soldier poses in front of sign for the 100th Infantry Battalion's "A" company, part of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. The 100th Battalion, which earned the nickname of "Purple Heart Battalion" because of its many casualities, was activated in 1942. Many of its members originally belonged to the Hawaii National Guard and they were present at Pearl Harbor on December 7th to help clear away debris and care for the wounded. In 1943, the 100th Battalion began a string of combat engagements throughout Italy, including Salerno and Cassino. In 1944, after working its way north through Italy, the 100th officially became part of the 442nd, and together, they began their push through Southern France.
